Lower leg position refers to the leg at the knee and below. With the heel down and the toe slightly pointing out (no more then 45 degrees) the inside of the calf is allowed to make contact with the horse. It is important to keep the knee next to the saddle for stability and proper positioning, however, do not squeeze with the knee. This will cause the knee to act as pivot and the lower leg to swing. Exagerated calf contact with the horse acts as an aid. Even contact should be made from the inner thigh, knee and calf.
