What is Under Saddle?

Under saddle is a term that is used for hunter classes. Hunter under saddle means that the rider does not make any jumps (also called a flat class). The movement of the horse and how smooth they are is judged very carefully. The rider is judged as well as to how well the rider keeps his/her position in the saddle and how delicately he/she administers the aids. Sometimes, the ride is asked to make the horse move backward, extend the trot, or even hand gallop.
