At Pony Brook Stables we train our students in English Style horseback riding, with an emphasis on hunter-jumper lessons. Not only do students receive a mounted horse education but also an un-mounted education including care for the riding equipment and the horse itself.
English Style
There are many forms of English style horseback riding. At Pony Brook Stables we focus on hunter-jumper. All English style forms of horseback riding require an English saddle.
Hunter
This form of horseback riding originates from fox hunting. It draws the course from the environment: the rider and horse jump natural style fences, like chicken coops and wood-rail fences with brush underneath. More information about
English Hunter horse back riding.
Jumper
Jumper horseback riding is also called Show Jumping. This is the type of horseback riding that is seen in the Olympics. The jumps are higher and set up in a stadium setting. During competition rider and horse are judged on time and faults. More information about

Horse Education
Students also benefit from lessons at Pony Brook by receiving an un-mounted education. They learn how to take care of the horse and the equipment. When the students arrive at the stable they are in charge of tacking up the horse and preparing the horse to ride, as well as taking care of the horse once the riding is over.
Equitation
The proper form while mounted on a horse. At Pony Brook Stable we teach equitation to the students. If the rider’s form is correct they are more likely to get the correct result from their horse. Proper equitation also allows for a safer ride. More information about English Equitation.
